Headquartered in Rovinj, Maistra Inc. was established in March of 2005. The 50 years of inherited experience in the tourist business represents the basis for further development of the company in combination with the use of new technologies, implementation of international tourist industry standards, full compliance with all sustainable growth standards and sensibility for environmental protection as the most important resource.

This is why Maistra Inc. has set ambitious targets in development of its tourist portfolio and creating and building its own tourist product brands with top quality of facilities and services. The company focuses on development of luxury tourism and introduction of 5-star hotels and resorts that will be the basis for the positioning of both the destination and the company.
For the purpose of implementing its development plans, Maistra Inc. has formed a strategic development plan, including comprehensive projects for construction and reconstruction of the existing tourist facilities and complexes. Up to the end of 2009, Maistra Inc.has invested almost 230 million EURO in its tourist product and destination, which makes if the most ambitious tourism investor in the region. In addition to development of facilities intended for holiday tourism, the strategic plan particularly focused on development of complementary facilities (congress facilities, sporting facilities, wellness facilities and other special-interest facilities), which will provide for development of new market segments and year-round intensive tourist activity in the destination.
INVESTMENTS, 2005 – 2011
The implementation of the investment plans has begun in 2005 with investments in the Petalon Tourist Resort in Vrsar and the Amarin Tourist Resort in Rovinj, and investments targeted on improvement of camp facilities in both destinations.
In 2006, Maistra Inc. invested almost 78 million Euro. 13 million Euro was invested in the Belvedere Tourist Resort in Vrsar and 7 million Euro was invested in the apartment resort within the Koversada Naturist Park, whereby the categories of these two resorts were upgraded to 4 stars. The most significant projects in 2006 include the investment in Hotel Istra in Rovinj worth 26 million Euro, whereby the hotel became distinctive for its first wellness center on the subject of the Mediterranean in Croatia. The 2006 investments in Hotel Eden in Rovinj, presently the leading 4-star hotel in Croatia, raised the quality of all accommodation units and a part of the common areas and facilities.
In 2007, the investments included the initial phase of construction of the Monte Mulini zone and preparation for completion of investments in the Belvedere Tourist Resort. The above investments continued in 2008 when their value reached 91 million Euro. The primary focus was on continuance of the launched investments in the Monte Mulini and Lone hotels within the Monte Mulini zone that will become a luxury tourist zone upon completion. Other investments included the Petalon and Belvedere Tourist Resorts in Vrsar and Koversada Apartments and totaled 9 million Euro – with such complete offer, the facilities are now among the leading products of the sort in Croatia.
Maistra Inc.marked the year 2008 by another significant investment, having purchased the Katarina hotel complex located on the island of the same name, right next to the old town core of Rovinj.
The year 2009 represents a turning point in the tourist offer of both the destination and the company. Having opened the first 5-star hotel in Rovinj, the Monte Mulini, an exclusive hotel meeting the highest standards of luxury leisure clientele that cost almost 27 million Euro, Maistra Inc.provided Rovinj and Croatia with a completely new quality dimension. Last July, Maistra Inc.opened an all-suite hotel within Hotel Istra, the first tourist facility of the sort in Croatia, which conceptually supplements the extensive torurist facilities on the Island of Sv. Andrija. The hotel has 32 suites and Maistra Inc.invested 4 million Euro in the construction of this luxurious facility.
In the next two years, Maistra Inc.continues with its ambitious investments to provide as wide a range of options and as high a destination quality as possible. This year, the construction of the new Hotel Lone begins - the basis of Maistra’s congress offer (an investment worth around 40 million Euro) and the first Croatian hotel included in the international collection of the world-renowned brand Design Hotels AG.
FUTURE INVESTMENTS
The upcoming investment cycle will include new reconstruction projects and conversion of existing tourist facilities within the Rovinj and Vrsar destinations, which will in the future change the perception of Rovinj and a town and position it as an inevitable luxury tourist resort operating year-round. Investments will continue in the Amarin Resort, namely in construction of a wellness hotel, which will ultimately complete the offer of this resort. Investments will also be made in Hotel Katarina on the island of the same name, which will become a luxury 5+-star hotel, areas of the former tobacco factory will be put into service of tourism, and Vrsar will have a representative hotel in the place of the existing Hotel Pineta, which will be the driver of the new image and destination. Concurrently with the construction of new hotels and resorts, Maistra Inc.will begin to develop project plans for construction of the first golf course in its portfolio.
