“Loved Rovinj”
TrueBird28, Birmingham, Jan 31, 2009

My boyfriend and I wanted to visit somewhere in Europe that was a bit different to all holidays we had previously had. Croatia & Rovinj seemed like the ideal place for us so we jetted off for a week in August. When we arrived we were not disapointed with scenery, food, people and the hotel.
We normally go on self catering holidays so were pleasently surprised with the food on offer in the hotel, although we did eat out three nights to sample the local restaurants. All the food on offer was as you would get in other european countries, but it was of a higer standard. An evening meal costs about £50 a couple, including wine and we thought this was a very good price, in view of the food we were served. Some of the resturants on the hill to the left as you step off the boat have amazing views and sunsets while you eat.
The hotel was clean, tidy and as expected. Being on its own island made it feel more special, there are no shops however so if you want to pop out for something you are restricted.
Rovinj is a beautifal place and gives many parts of Italy a run for its money. I would definaltey recommend this area and hotel to anyone if you want somehing a bit different.

“A great hotel”
VJag, Manchester, UK, Nov 2, 2008

We stayed at the Hotel Istra in mid-October and had a wonderful time. The hotel itself is clean and nicely furnished.
We were pleased with our room, which had a balcony with a sea-view.
As far as evening food is concerned, we would recommend the impressive Restaurant Lanterna (located in a church), just outside of the main hotel building but still on the island. The food was very tasty and good value for money.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and we were impressed by the ability of staff to converse in numerous languages. Their English was very good. (Zlato and Mladen were great tutors for archery and shooting.)
Another great feature of the hotel is that you're on your very own island. In view of the time of year of our visit, it was pretty quiet and full of middle-aged / elderly-ish folk. As far as we were concerned, that was great because we were after some peace and quiet.
The hotel provides a great boat called the Rubinum (we loved that boat!) to travel to the nearby town of Rovinj – free of charge. The boat starts early in the morning and we think that the last boat from Rovinj back to the island is around midnight: boats are regular, every hour.
The great thing about staying on this hotel is that you have your very own island (actually 2 islands joined together) to yourself. In conclusion we would recommend this hotel to all persons. You should have a great time.

“My Favourite Place.....”
Durham_Sunbunny, Durham, Sep 21, 2008

Got a last minute cheapie to this hotel. Wasn't sure about Croatia as a holiday destination but as soon as we arrived any doubts we may have had dissapeared. Arrived late evening, restaurant closed but some food / soft drinks had been left in our room or our arrival which as much appreciated.
Room on 3rd floor was lovely. V.Clean, plenty of space for the 3 of us and wonderful views from our balcony. As far as we could tell, all rooms have sea views and another plus is that they don't charge for the room safe !
Food was v.good, restaurants never too busy & complimentary drinks with dinner.
Hotel grounds are immaculate. Never had problems getting a sun bed. Hotel is very European - Lots of Italians / Russians / Latvians there, only saw one other English family ( not a bad thing).
Rovinj is gorgeous. Cobbled streets ( wear sensible shoes !), street artists, lovely boutiques & craft shops. Many cafes/restaurants & ice-cream parlours, not at all expensive.
Everywhere seemed clean & well maintained and the Coatian people were very hospitable and most spoke several languages including English.
Did the Venice Trip and a boat trip to the Limm Fjord - both very enjoyable.
All said, we loved it and did not have a single complaint. Will definately return one day.

“Would go back..”
tezabel, Suffolk England, Jul 25, 2008

Just come back from a week here, and would love to return. The hotel itself was clean, spacious and contemporary. The staff were very helpful and accomodating. The view from our balcony was beautiful-really worth having a room with a sea view.
The food was good, with variety-the only drawback was that the dining area was chaotic-with guests getting up and down from the tables to get other courses from the buffet-no quiet meals! This was more noticeable when visiting restaurants in Rovinj and having a relaxing meal with conversation.
The boat to and from Rovinj was quick, regular and very reliable, and even runs in bad weather. Rovinj itself was lovely, with lots of character, cobbled streets, artists, restaurants cafes and bars. The water was turquoise, clear and beautiful for swimming. If you like plants and wildlife, the two islands have many species on them-lookout for the green headed lizards..
The sunsets are stunning, the area is peaceful and largely unpretentious. I will be back!
