Dive in! You will be surprised to find what the Adriatic Sea hides beneath its surface...
Rovinj and Vrsar have much to offer beneath the surface of the sea to adventurers seeking new underwater experiences. The beauty of its islets and the reef that runs along its shoreline are just a few of the features that will remain only partially explored if you do not dive into the depths of the sea to uncover the part that is hidden beneath its surface. You will be able to “read” the rich nautical history that is found on the sea’s floor where dozens of sunken shipwrecks tell the stories of the region’s famous naval history. Dive in! You will be amazed...
Diving
Program
Day 1 A welcome drink, followed by an introduction to your instructors and a presentation of the characteristics of the seafloor and particular diving routes.
Day 2 In the morning, we begin with a dive in the cove. In the afternoon, we will take a boat ride towards Bagnole - an island unique for its caves whose entrance lies at a depth of 5 m, and whose exit is in the center of the island. Its rocky labyrinth at a 12 m depth and its underwater caves will provide a new dimension to one’s diving experience. Visibility is excellent and diving is possible for all categories of divers.
Day 3 Today we will explore St. John’s Island, one of the largest islands of the Rovinj archipelago that offers as many as four diving sites, each providing its own unique diving experiences. Even though 27 m is the maximum site depth, the most interesting diving takes place at depths between 1 to 18 m. We recommend that you take a break between dives on the nearby island of St. Andrew where you will find a modern hotel, several restaurants, and café/bars.
Day 4 Today we will set out on a diving adventure to explore sunken shipwrecks including the Italian torpedo ship that went down in battle during World War I. The boat was split in two, and so our dives will take place at two different sites. A large cannon still exists on the boat, complete with activation mechanisms, anti-aircraft heavy artillery and torpedo tubes. Both ends of the boat, each 30 - 40 m long, are located at depths of 37 m. In the afternoon, we will travel to an interesting location - Pirussi Mali. Here you will see large rocks in block formations at 5 m depths and a wealth of flora and fauna. We recommend that you bring a camera along and enjoy the pleasures of underwater photography.
Day 5 Today is a day for a great diving treat - a dive to the Baron Gautsch wreck, a passenger ship of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, popularly called the ‘Small Titanic of the Adriatic’ that went down August 13, 1914 after triggering an underwater mine. It sank in less than 10 minutes. Today its remains lie on a sandy sea floor at a depth of 40 m. The boat is 85 m long and 11 m wide. Diving is possible on the first and second decks located at 28 m and 34 m depths, respectively. This dive is exceptionally interesting because the wreck is preserved in its entirety. The afternoon is reserved for the exchanging of diving experiences at an outdoor group barbecue lunch. After dinner, you are in for a distinct night-diving experience at the nearby “Crab Island” that features an extremely rich marine life that decorate this location with their rich colors. The island gradually submerges to a depth of 27 m, with its most interesting diving sites at depths of 14 to 15 meters.
Day 6 This day is foreseen for diving in the near vicinity of the Brijuni islands, at the Istra wreck - the remains of a large cargo ship, originally named “Hans Schnidt”. The ship was 113 m long and sank during World War II. The wreck has an abundant fish population. The long diving route leads to a nearby “new reef” location. The wide and diverse shoal pinnacle, which begins at a depth of 6 m and gradually descends to a depth of 32 meters, provides a true diving adventure for new divers.
Day 7 Breakfast is followed by departure.
