City walls

dubrovnik walls

The old city walls offer plenty of opportunities for trademark Dubrovnik images, as many of these spots are found on postcards and have been featured in a number of film and television productions over the years. In addition to looking great despite their age – the walls date back to the 7th century, but the present system of fortifications was constructed between the 12th and 17th century – the city walls played a vital role in Dubrovnik’s history and probably have more stories to tell than any other single landmark in the region. With several fortresses, towers, bastions and fortifications, the 2-km walk on the walls offers fantastic views of the Adriatic, the Dubrovnik cityscape, and some of the city’s most significant historic locations.
