Adris44 Cup: after almost 10 years, the world sailing elite arrives in Rovinj again

From 29 May to 2 June this year, organised by Sail la Vie and JK Maestral, and sponsored by Adris Group, Rovinj will once again host one of the most attractive sailing competitions in the world – the Adris44 Cup. The regatta will take place right after the opening of the new Grand Park Hotel Rovinj and the ACI marina.

Adris44 Cup: after almost 10 years, the world sailing elite arrives in Rovinj again

The 44Cup world tour consists of five regattas taking place at different locations around the world. All teams use identical RC44 class sailboats designed by Russell Coutts, five-time winner of the America’s Cup and one of the greatest yachtsmen of all time. Each team comprises the boat owner, four amateur yachtsmen, three professional yachtsmen, and a tactician. The boats are made with the same technology used in making formula racing car chassis, which enables a high rate of acceleration and sailing in all weather conditions, promising an exciting and fair competition in which the skills of the crew and helmsman are the decisive factors.

“This extraordinary event will re-establish Rovinj and Croatia as desirable sports and tourist destinations. We have shown that in order to develop luxury tourism, it is necessary to develop high-quality accommodation units and prestigious events. This year’s 44Cup is not only a regatta, but a celebration of the new Grand Park Hotel Rovinj and the new ACI marina, which will be at the centre of the whole event,” said Tomislav Popović, Chairman of the Board at Maistra. He also said that, in addition to the already invested HRK four billion, Adris Group will invest an extra HRK two billion in its tourism operations by 2021.

The Adris44Cup will be the biggest sailing spectacle of the year in Croatia

Adris Group supports top-quality sports events as part of its strategy of promoting excellence in all areas. It should be noted that Rovinj hosted the world sailing elites at the ACI Match Race Cup in 2006, Adris RC44 Cup in 2011, and the Adris RC44 World Championship in 2012, all sponsored by Adris Group. This year’s addition to the racing calendar serves to reaffirm Rovinj’s status as an ideal nautical and sports destination, one that the many participants in the biggest sailing competitions in the world, such as the America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race, are happy to return to.

Around a dozen boats and about a hundred yachtsmen are expected in Croatia at the end of May and the beginning of June.
